I would agree with the person who said they were worried with higher taxes, we all know law making and tax raising powers are the two which makes Wales an independent country, once you have these two laws what ever England says or orders would mean nothing to us.

I was talking to Plaid who said we must be independent we can then join the EU, we will then get money from them, as England would make us a poor country, but what happens if it takes twenty or thirty years to get into the Eu. England would I suspect stop the Barnett agreement and we'd be broke.

I'm not so educated as you lot but I also know people are worried..

Comment on True Wales at Carmarthen: What really happened by Len Gibbs

The "True Wales at Carmarthen: What really happened" isn't what really happened. Some of the team arrived at 11am and began leafleting. I joined at 11.30 and the remainder just before Noon. The questionning survey was then conducted for a fixed period until a suffient number of answers had been obtained. Because the above report has been carried over to Waleshome.org challenges were made to me to explain what really happened. In the 'Big Lie' article by Daran Hill, somewhere towards the end of the postings, I provided an explanation in two postings.

I am disappointed that John Dixon has taken the attitude towards True Wales on this subject because in our exchanges to his article on Waleshome I thought we had a civilised and serious discussion.

What really happend at Carmarthen is we asked face to face questions of real people who not only answered our questions but entered into discussions about the pros and cons of the referendum issues. It was an enjoyable experience meeting with a large number of pleasant people, many of whom shared our opinion - more than expected.

That's what really happened.

Sir, True Wales attended Carmarthen at my invitation as a former Councillor and one of the few actually born in the town I felt it my
duty to give the many non-Plaid voters the opportunity to voice their opinion on a referendum. It has been my experience that there are
many within the town who would vote No for more powers but feel
that they have been abandoned by their elected representatives as
the four parties are supporting a Yes campaign. Considering the poll
was held on the day following an evening rugby international the
response was quite good.Yes there may of been leaflets discarded
but no more than those discarded after a Plaid leafletting session.
Mr. Dixon should realise that this was the first of many and there
are a lot of us who remember Plaids first foray into Carmarthen in
66 but of course he wasn't around here then.

What is surprising, considering the amount of publicity and political pressures being applied by TW, that to date, and until I have placed a few comments on this blog, there has been no comments whatsoever submitted from either pro devolutionist or anti devolutionist commentators.
Which demonstrates to me, at least, the absolutely dire level of interest that actually exists outside the meetings of TW and other devolution fora.

As for the AWC, that was a total disaster for the people of Wales, each meeting was organised so that only committed people could attend, no 'walking in off the street' attendance, and only a structured agenda, at those meetings, to follow.

Many in my area who wished to attend, having seen and heard what had gone on in previous, meetings simply lost interest, as they had believed the purpose of the meetings was to extract information as to the continuation of the Assembly, NOT that it should be given yet more powers.

Many in this area see nothing of value emanating from the meetings of the AWC, and often tell me that the TW agenda is not one they wish to be involved in.

What is required from the political establishment, is a new referendum, with a fully detailed, unbiased, and open discussion forum that ALL can address, and upon voting, ask....

..........'Do we need to continue with an Assembly and WAG, in Wales?'...

Get that out of the way, and if the people do indeed ask for continuation of the present set up, maye then we can think, ponder, and debate the possibility of further powers.

However, I for one will resist any attempt to expand the power base of the existing establishment, and will be actively promoting the dissolution and dispensation of that Cardiff Bay menagerie.
